An Army brat, Terry Barkley was born in Tokyo, Japan, and grew up on military bases in Germany and the United States. A native of Huntsville, Alabama, he attended Jacksonville State University in Alabama and graduated from the University of North Alabama. He holds graduate degrees/certificate from The Citadel, University of Alabama, and Harvard University.
Terry taught history in private and public schools in Alabama and Virginia for ten years. Completing the M.L.S. degree in librarianship (archives and special collections) at Alabama in 1987, he has served at the Birmingham (AL) Public Library, Alabama A & M University, and at Bridgewater College in Virginia.
In 1990, he completed the one-year graduate Certificate in Museum Studies (C.M.S.) at Harvard University.
A former musician (drums and percussion) with more than forty years of experience in all musical genres, Terry is listed as one of “Alabama’s Music Achievers” by the Alabama Music Hall of Fame.
He is also listed in Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, and in the Directory of American Scholars.
Terry is the author of One Who Served (3rd ed., 2004), and of various published articles in the field of history.
Hired by the MMI Foundation, Terry began work in the Archives (on the top floor of the Baer Memorial Library) on June 1, 2007.
